I support the Local Green space proposal for the Corbett Meadow. It is a vital green space in a built up area and provides important habitat for wildlife in the area. There are very few untouched meadows in the country and this should be kept as a green space to support well being to the local community and as an educational support for local schoolchildren. It is important that green spaces are kept to enhance the environment and counteract the pollution that would be increased by extra housing and extra traffic in an already built up area. Save the meadow.

As a local resident of Stourbridge I wish to voice my concern regarding the threat to Corbett Meadow by developers.

We should protect one of the last remaining green spaces for the good of the community to which this land was bequeathed. This area offers important habitat for wildlife and is integral to the green corridor which forms Coalbourne Brook Valley.

The meadow should be nurtured and allow more opportunity to open up further managed public access. The current rate of building locally, particularly along Wharf Road, increased the need to offer increased access for the benefits associated with health and wellbeing.

I am very sad to hear that despite all the hard work of the SAVE CORBETT
MEADOW group, the meadow is still not safe from development.
John Corbett gave the house and land to Trustees for the people of
Stourbridge.. believing I'm sure that the trust he placed in them would
ensure that the people of Stourbridge would continue to benefit from the
enjoyment of nature and thereputically despite the demise of the hospital in
its Georgian form.
Sadly it is coming to light that the mental health of children and adults in this
country is in serious decline, but happily that nature is restorative and that
we must guard and cherish every acre of woodland and grassland possible
for the future well being of people and children & in this case of Stourbridge.
Emergency planning can have utterly devastating effects. It cannot be
undone and remains to remind us how carefully we need to treat the place
where we and future generations will live. The concrete race track around
the centre of Stourbridge which has changed it from a lovely market town to
a shadow of its former attractive self is an excellent example - also the
bridge which names our town which has nothing distinctive or attractive
about it but looks more like something over a motorway!
Please honour the trust placed in us by John Corbett in 1892 in his wish to
provide a lovely therapeutic area for the people of Stourbridge .. and SAVE
CORBETT MEADOW FOR PEOPLE AND WILDLIFE.

I urge you to confirm Corbett Meadows by designating it as recommended in the Dudley Local Plan as a Site of Interest for Nature Conservation, an Area of High Historic Landscape Value and as a Local Green Space.

This will protect a badly needed green lung in Amblecote and of historical and cultural significance for the area, and help conserve a delicate wildlife habitat connected to the Coal bourne Brook Valley. John Corbett left this as a legacy to the people of Stourbridge and it should be opened to the public for their wellbeing. We now know how vital this is for our health and it would be tragic to see a legacy for the public good used for short term financial gain. Surely we can be better than this?

Amblecote has been eroded by residential development on a large scale over the last 60 years, the
landscape being unrecognizable comparing maps of that time, however the Corbett meadow is easily
identified being a natural green space. Historically used for grazing, after haymaking the community
came together on the meadow for the annual fete. It holds significant recreational and community
value with fond memories of those times still spoken about today.
Given the proposed designations of SINC for nature conservation & AHHLV for its high historic
landscape and background. This merits a wonderful educational asset on the doorstep of local
schools & interested groups, being adjacent to the hospital the tranquility and beauty of the meadow
would give an opportunity for use for health and wellbeing. There would be a need to enhance and
maintain the meadow, focusing on nature conservation, agriculture and horticulture perhaps for work
& health rehabilitation. With managed access the possibilities for its future are enormous.
The meadow is the last visible remaining part of ‘The Hill’ estate that John Corbett purchased, it
should be retained to be of use for the community, to continue his beliefs and to honour his generous
legacy to the people of Stourbridge and Amblecote as it was intended - before its forgotten.

One important thing to consider is protecting our green areas, both small and large; an example is the fields adjacent to the Corbett hospital which should be protected as a local green space, and you should survey and protect hedgerows because of their value to wildlife. I should like to see much more of Dudley’s green areas and wildlife centres being “rewilded” and allowing nature to demonstrate its effectiveness. I would love to see wild flowers being allowed to grow everywhere and grass areas allowed to grow and not mown down.

I am in support of Dudley councils decision to designate this site as a Site of Importance for Nature
Conservation and would support its proposed designation as Local Green Space to further protect it from
development. Also I support that this and wider area should be accorded Area of High Historic Land Value status.

First of all this site was left as a LEGACY to the people of Stourbridge by John Corbett and is an important
historical site, just like the Black Country Museum - which no one would consider in a million years knocking
down for housing.

Its current use as a grazing site has preserved the areas natural ECOLOGICAL VALUE and adds to the
conservation of valuable wildlife and open space.
My biggest concern is that with the threat of Climate Change such areas are vital to protect our towns from
pollution,flooding and drought and the consequent health of the population.

The erosion of green spaces in the urban environment threatens physical and mental health,( as pointed out by
The World Heath Authority and the many international climate change emergency conferences) damaging the
air we breath, the plants and animals that sustain ecological balance and our mental health.

I fear for my grandchildrens future living in Dudley if such areas are not given consideration and priority as vitally
important.

Although currently in NHS ownership, my proposal for the use of the Corbett Meadow would be that it is kept as
a grazing site with managed access and used as an ecological education site for local children and wildlife
volunteers - at the same time offering a place of peace and tranquillity for staff and patients at the hospital to sit
and walk in.

In the draft plan the Corbett Meadow site is listed as a Site of Interest for Nature Conservation, an Area of High Historic Landscape Value and a Local Green Space. I agree with these designations of the site and ask that Dudley Council will keep its commitment to ensuring that Corbett Meadow is preserved.
Our local nature reserves, sites of interest for nature and historic value are one of the jewels in the crown in Dudley Borough and the loss of Corbett Meadow would be to the detriment of the people of the borough and the fauna and flora which thrive there.

The Corbett Meadow is a facility which benefits the local population as a valuable green space in

May I remind you at Dudley Planning and Regeneration the significance and importance of the Corbett Meadows
green field site. I have received notification that once again this precious area has an unsure future and still may be
at the risk of development. This seems to be never ending, of course these developers have the resources to
constantly chip away at decisions previously made. Their profit motive should not in my opinion outweigh the
importance and significance of this meadow to the local community.
I hardly need to tell you again the benefits of keeping this beautiful meadow out of the pockets of developers, but
it is a historic and iconic green space and landscape in a otherwise built up area with ecological importance, and
human physical and psychological benefits.
I would hope and urge that the Dudley Local Plan for the site to be designated as an area of regional importance for
nature conservation be adopted for the sake of the community and to settle this matter for good.

I am writing as Chairman of Amblecote History Society to register my and our member’s
support for the proposed designations for Amblecote’s most historic landscape the Corbett Meadow for the
following reasons.
Site of Interest for Nature Conservation – Several natural habitats exist within the meadow, these are
becoming rare not just locally but countrywide, especially the meadows location within a built up area and
the connection it has to the Coalbourne Brook Valley.
We strongly support the designation of (SINC) within the Dudley Local Plan.
Area of High Historical Landscape Value – The undulating landscape of Corbett Meadow with its historic
grassland is very attractive. It is one of the last parcels of land in Amblecote, which has remained unchanged
and can be traced back to early maps even prior to the building of ‘The Hill’ mansion, which was part of the
estate. The estates past owners have been local industrialists mostly connected with our local Glass industry.
From the high vistas of the meadow you can view various historical sites, St. Michael’s Church, Red House
Cone, Holy Trinity Church Wordsley and Dennis Hall past home of Iron Master Thomas Hill and of course
Webb Corbett Glass. An area of Corbett Meadow was known as Windmill Hill, we are delighted to know of
the possibility that the remains of a windmill maybe in existence and would encourage further research.
We strongly support the designation of (AHHLV) within the Dudley Local Plan.
Local Green Space – The last purchaser of the estate John Corbett, born locally in the nearby Delph where
he had a modest upbringing from canal carrier to salt. His gift to this area was to purchase ‘The Hill’ mansion
and its 32-acre estate and convert it into a hospital, adding many further donations to the furnishings and
extra wards; he gave Stourbridge and Amblecote a lasting legacy. We hope that the owners of the meadow
the Dudley Group of Hospitals NHS Trust will now honour that legacy of the last remaining part of the estate.
John Corbett was a great believer in health and wellbeing, it is fitting that our historic meadow should
remain as a Local Green Space and officially designated as such, with the emphasis on Nature Conservation,
Education, and to encourage a healthy lifestyle with managed access. This green facility should remain to
honour John Corbett’s gift. If alternatively sold to a developer his gift would certainly be lost forever.
We strongly support the designation that Corbett Meadow should be A Local Green Space (LGS)
within the Dudley Local Plan.

I would like to support the Draft Dudley Local Plan in regards to Corbett Meadow.
Corbett Meadow is a great asset to Corbett Hospital for the mental wellbeing for both patients and
staff. The meadow is a green lung in the middle of a very busy area. Clean air is something that we
should all be entitled to. The meadow is an essential part of reducing the pollution in the area. This
clean air space will help with the health of the local community. In addition it has many mental
health benefits for people and can be a saviour for people who feel isolated.
Wildlife is an essential part of our eco system. Many varieties of mammals, birds, insects and plants
live within the meadow boundaries so it is vital that this will be conserved.
John Corbett gifted the land to the people of Stourbridge knowing the full benefits that it will have.
These benefits have not changed so we should keep it. This will not only benefit the current local
community but it will have a long term impact and benefit for future generations.
