Speaking as a life-long resident of central Brierley Hill, there is not enough open space - green or otherwise - in the Town. Some open spaces where I played as a Boy in the 1950s, have been built upon.

There is an inaccurate reference to Sport England guidance that is referred to as Sport England policy. This should be addressed as follows:
11.71g – Encouraging implementation of the Sport England Active Design Guidance.
Sport England is pleased to note that the other amendments previously recommended have been included, including the amendment to paragraph 11.72 making the roles of policies DLP37 and DLP 38 clearer.

The first point we raised has been mis-understood in respect of the wording of para 11.71g). To address this a minor modification is recommended as follows:
11.71g – Encouraging implementation of the Sport England Active Design Guidance.
Sport England is pleased to note that the other amendments previously recommended have been included, including the amendment to paragraph 11.72 making the roles of policies DLP37 and DLP 38 clearer.

The proposed policies to protect green spaces in Woodsetton are supported, but their success is threatened by budget cuts, limited funding, and reduced community support. The Trust calls for an Action Plan for Sedgley/ Woodsetton, outlining specific actions, responsibilities, and timelines to ensure these policies are effectively implemented, such as urgent action for Hurst Hill Wood.

The Borough's vision for urban renaissance and environmental transformation, particularly in creating accessible green spaces for health and wellbeing, is strongly supported. However, the draft Policy fails to ensure that green spaces not only be protected but also function effectively, as seen in the case of the Corbett Hospital site, which could provide public access to an existing green space. The site, currently in private ownership and agricultural use, could contribute more to the Borough’s green network if developed for public access. The Council is urged to focus on maximizing the value of open spaces while balancing other priorities like housing delivery and accessibility.
